Oopsies

October has been going well for me so far. After a summer of long weekends where I didn't refrain from carbs, I really started to feel some old habits and food noise creeping back in. So, the first clean weekend was tough, but I made it by reminding myself how good I felt when the scale was in the 150's, and how much easier moving felt, vs being 15 or more pounds heavier. I have been eating salads or other entrees without the bun when we go out, and skipping having a side. It works. There have been a few times on the weekends when I have considered cheating, but the scale is moving in the right direction, so I want to see this month through and I'm hoping it will get me in the habit of having self restraint where food is concerned. I haven't been doing longer fasts for the first part of the month, today will be my first day getting back into it, but I am continuing to do my morning workouts 5 days a week. Honestly, I have been sticking to yoga and stretching but I am getting back to strength training tomorrow. As of this week I have a 42 week streak going on my Peleton app. That means I have consistently worked out 42 weeks in a row, the majority being 5 days a week, except my weeks off where I only got 1 or 2 those weeks, but was naturally more active. At the end of September, we had a pretty big 'oopsie. My younger son is learning how to drive. Our driveway is a pretty steep hill so you have to give it gas to get up, then the garage is right at the top. My son got up the hill and was in perfect position to park, but mixed up the gas pedal and the brakes, so he and my husband crashed through the garage door and smashed into the back of our garage. Its an old garage, but Oh what a mess! Of course, we had to work with the insurance on both the car and the garage, and its been a stressful learning experience, but no people were harmed in this accident, so everything else is replaceable.
Because of depreciation value of the garage, we have to try and fix it ourselves. We are not super versed in home repairs but we have faith. One night, as we were standing in our doorless garage discussing what to do, we discovered a porcupine hiding under my husband's car. While we do have porcupine in Wisconsin, we live in the city, and have never encountered one, so it was a little shocking experience in the midst of chaos. But Oh how stinking cute is this? It eventually made a move straight into our garage. There was little we could do without a door, so we left it alone and in the morning it was gone and we put tarps up.
Oh, there were times with the stress that I wanted to comfort eat, but I told myself that after I ate junk, I would feel physically bad and the garage would still be in shambles, so what's the point. It has worked so far. We are done with getting some of the damaged stuff out, and are ready to repair some of the framing this week, then we'll get some new siding up. The rest should come together fairly quickly. We are going to have a new garage door professionally installed. It is definitely a test of our skills and creative thinking, but I think we will be so proud of what we accomplished when its done. That's about the extent of the excitement around here. At the beginning of the month my weight was 178, today I am 174. Not blazing any trails, but definitely moving the way I want it to.
