Busy few weeks
Oh my word, how is summer half gone already? I feel like it was May just last week. Time never slows down, does it?
The past few weeks have been a little crazy. The engine in my husband's car died and stranded him an hour away from home. We bought the car used from one of his coworkers a little less than 2 years ago so we were thinking we were about to have a huge financial decision to make once it got to the shop. As luck would have it, one of the tow truck drivers told him to check if it was under warranty since the car is only 10 years old. We were so fortunate Kia agreed to replace his engine for free! There was a lot of drama and worry in between all those events. I also did my first Farmer's Market of the season in June. It's funny because the sales trickle in, small purchases here and there, and then I get home and realize I made more than $200. I don't know if i would do it if my husband and son didn't come help. it's a lot of heavy lifting!
I had the week of June 23rd off and my husband had my car that week since his was in the shop, so I spent it around home, working on art, doing some weeding in our flowerbeds and not much else productive! I did hoof it to the grocery store one day, which is 5 blocks away. Let me tell you, the difference between being directly across the street from Lake Michigan (where we live) and being just a mere block away from the lake is easily 15 degrees different! I was a sweaty Betty until I got back near the house! I had perfectly planned to stay on track during my week off, but on Monday when I went in the fridge to get my burger patties to cook for lunch, I noticed they were turning brown and didn't have an expiration date. So that was my trek to the grocery store. I got junk food too, chips and ice cream sandwiches, telling myself it was fate that the meat was bad and I'd get back on track in July. I still ate my normal keto food, but I also had the snacks. Boy did my stomach hate me!
The day after I sold my art at the farmer's market, I participated in a paint and Sip class at a local art studio/espresso bar. I have been wanting to try painting with brushes for some time now, and this was only a couple blocks away and I really liked the subject so I just went for it. I'm pretty pleased with how mine turned out.
I spent some time stripping, sanding, staining and painting a table that I will have for sale at my August art fair, here it is not quite finished
I did a few yoga sessions on Peleton and I did a couple HIIT workouts during my week off. I have been causing myself to have terrible snapping hip syndrome from the high intensity workouts, but I dont want to stop because they give me the greatest energy and mood boost! And I could tell when putting my vendor tent up for the market that I am getting stronger! I just need to skip the jumping. I can't believe I ever badmouthed Peleton on this blog. I really enjoy it now that it's a habit! One of my intense workouts recently, the instructor said how they were so impressed with the people who showed up for this particular workout because HIIT training is challenging and it takes a strong person to decide to push themselves. Then they said, "Most of the time, there are only one or two decisions that separate you from your best self." That really helped me power through the rest of the workout! I now have a 28 week workout streak going on Peleton, I'm still doing 2 HIIT sessions and 3 yoga sessions per week, I get cardio walking my dog. He walks me, actually, but you get the gist!
I have held up my word about getting back on track in July. I even did fairly well on July 4, despite us getting a grill (our old one died a few years ago) and all the yummy food. I allowed myself to go off plan, but I still kept things in check by eating my hamburger without the bun or ketchup, and I only had a couple tablespoons of baked beans and potato salad. I bought some sugar-free Popsicles for dessert. I have stayed on course all the rest of the weekend despite eating out and cooking family meals, I just ate the meat and veggies and let them eat the noodles. My weight hasn't done much yet, I'm hovering at 173 but boy can I tell a difference in my face. And I'm starting to see shape in my shoulders and quad muscles from the strength training. Mentally, I feel so back in the game. I love being in this place again. I was beginning to wonder if I would feel this way again. Even though the scale is saying what it's saying I FEEL thinner/more fit just from a week of eating under control. I know I need to do photos and measurements, it's tedious so I always procrastinate doing it. I will soon.
Well, hope you all had a good 4th of July! Enjoy summer, it will be gone before we know it!
